Kirinyaga County has received a major infrastructural facelift ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations which it will be hosting.

The government has been undertaking various projects in the county in preparation for the 12th edition of the Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20.

Wanguru Stadium, the venue of the event, is almost complete, with installation of street lights in the town in the final phase.

The government has tarmacked and upgraded more than 30km of roads across the county and rehabilitated the Ngurubani Airstrip.

Construction of Phase I of the Kirinyaga Central subcounty Police Station and offices is also ongoing. Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho (pictured) said the works were 90 per cent complete.

“We are happy with the progress of the works. We expect everything to be finalised by October 8,” he said after leading the National Celebrations Committee to inspect the stadium.

Yesterday, there was also a dress rehearsal for the event, including a military parade and performances by local artistes.

Kibicho was accompanied by Governor Anne Waiguru and fellow PSs Paul Maringa (Infrastructure), Esther Koimett (Broadcasting and Telecommunications) and Joe Okudo (Sports).
