Kisii county records sharp increase in male suicide cases

About 14 people have committed suicide in Kisii county within the last three months, Kisii County Police Commander, Francis Kooli has said.

Out of the 14, thirteen were male.

The commander noted the county recorded 10 suicide cases in August while July and September had three and one case respectively.

He revealed they have since opened an inquest file for eight victims while six are being investigated.

“ Kisii Central sub county had nine suicide cases, Gucha South three, Kisii South two while Kenyenya and Sameta sub counties had one case each,” he said.

The officer said a big number of men committing suicide due to squabbles as well as failure to be able to take care of their families.

Some of the cases he cited that were contributing to the suicide cases include land disputes and marital squabbles.

“Life is precious and God- given. It is a criminal offence to take it. Every problem has a solution so long as affected people share it with friends, relatives or government officers” said Kooli.
