Kisumu county government has banned washing of cars within the Lakeside city in bid to conserve the environment.
The county through the city department gave the cashwash operators 48 hours to vacate places they operate in.
Newsline.co.ke is informed that the city manager Abala Wanga said they had embarked on an intensive citywide Greening iniative.
Abala said this iniative was aimed at making the city habitable and eco friendly which is in line with the county’s focus for the next five years on improving service delivery through enhanced infrastructural iniatives.
He however noted with great concern that these initiatives are heavily frustrated by unauthorized car wash points that are causing destruction of roads and Obstruction of walking.
This are being done along Busia Road, Kisumu – Kakamega Roads, Nyerere Road, Ondiek Highway and any part of the Central Business District.
“Notice is hereby given to all car wash operating in the stated areas to vacate within 48 hours from the date of this notice,”, he said
Abala added “Take further notice that in the event of non compliance, the city of Kisumu management shall move in on its own and remove such carwash equipment with no further reference to the owner and any cost incidental thereto,”.
The city manager further noted that all carwash should be in enclosed areas and have all the requisite approval from the city management and Kiwasco.
In December 2018, the county govenmnet banned washing of cars along the lake Victoria.
In January 2019 a total of Fifteen people were arrested for washing vehicles along Lake
The suspects were arrested when the Kisumu county government carried out its first raid after the ban was announced. The aim is to prevent pollution in the lake.
