Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki defended the decision to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) during the recent Gen Z demonstrations, citing significant security threats that necessitated the action.
During his vetting process, Kindiki elaborated on the security concerns that led to the readiness alert, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

“The deployment of KDF was a precautionary measure due to the severe threats we faced,” Kindiki explained.
“The criminals responsible for the burning of Parliament were also threatening to set fire to State House. If that situation did not warrant KDF intervention, I’m not sure any other scenario would.”
Kindiki detailed that the KDF’s mobilization was in response to escalating threats from criminal groups who had already targeted and destroyed Parliament and were explicitly threatening further attacks on State House.

He assured the committee that the deployment was legally justified, given the extreme nature of the threats.
In addition, Kindiki revealed a significant increase in his personal wealth, reporting a rise from Sh. 544 million to Sh. 694 million.
