A lobby group has launched a peace campaign across the country ahead of the august 8th elections.

The National Peace Consortium said that a number of organizations, dealing with matters of peace, decided to get together and offer a bigger voice in addressing issues concerning peace.

The Consortium’s leader Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari said that most of challenges faced by Kenyans are rarely addressed making achieving meaningful and genuine peace very difficult.

“Over time, due to the social-political and economic situation in our country, Kenya, we face great challenges maintaining Sustainable Peace. Poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance and social decay has continued to grow at an alarming rate,” Dr Kinyua said.

The lobby is now urging the ministry of Education to incorporate peace teaching into the current syllabus.

Speaking at the event, Bura Member of Parliament who also accepted to be the Consortium’s patron asked that matters of peace have not been given the focus it deserves urging Kenyans not only to remain united but also to ensure they coexist peacefully.

The National Chairman of NUMCA further said that the rationale behind the formation of National Peace Consortium can best be summarized in the words of Allah the Almighty who teaches,

“And hold fast all together by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves, and remember with gratitude Allah’s favor on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love so that by His grace ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided”

‘The members of National Peace Consortium ascribe to the need to develop homegrown solutions to the problems we have and integrate these solutions in our social systems in order to institutionalize them as our way of life.’ he added.
