A section of Nairobi Youth Leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza Coalition have accused the Executive and the Deep State of being behind the woes of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.

This is after the Commission for University Education (CUE) revoked Sakaja’s Degree certificate which he presented for clearance at IEBC to run for Nairobi Governor.

Addressing the media at a Nairobi Restaurant Wednesday, the youths led by one Samuel Masaki who claims to be the Kenya Kwanza Youth Wing President say that CUE Chairman Nyaigoti Chacha Nyaigoti should come out clearly and state that it is being pressured to block Sakaja out of the Nairobi Gubernatorial race and that he should name the state officers behind the move.

‘We know that CUE is being pressured by the Executive and the Deep state to block Sakaja from running. The deep state here being people in power who are using the said power to suppress others. We know them and we want to tell them they should desist from that,’ Masakai said.

The youth who also purport to be running for various seats in the city ranging from MCA to MP say Sakaja is a well known public servant having served the nation in various capacities including being the current Nairobi Senator.

On his side Sakaja has insisted that he has the required academic qualifications and must be on the ballot.

“To President Kenyatta, I say: Let the people decide. Not even the threats to arrest me will dim our resolve to serve the people of Nairobi. The people of Nairobi have resoundingly rejected your project and are looking forward to electing their own,” Sakaja wrote on his Social media accounts.

“I remain committed and confident that a new dawn for our capital is beckoning, a city of order and dignity; hope and opportunity for all. We shall not be cowed. We will prevail.”

The credibility of Sakaja’s degree from the Team University has been brought to question by four people who claim it was forged.

The matter came up soon after Sakaja was cleared by the IEBC on June 7 to contest for the Nairobi governor seat on a UDA ticket.

One of the complainants, Dennis Wahome, claims in an affidavit to IEBC that Sakaja never studied or graduated from the Team University.

He claimed that Sakaja’s Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Team University was printed on May 29, 2022.

Wahome further said Sakaja never graduated from the University on October 21, 2016, as he claimed since his name is not on the university’s graduation list.
