The police in East Rachuonyo are searching for a man who is alleged to have killed a woman and her two-year-old child.
The incident occurred today, Friday, just two weeks after the woman began living with the man in what is referred to as a husband and wife relationship.
The 32-year-old suspect is currently in hiding.
The woman, identified as Mitchel Awuoro, was found with her throat cut. Her child was beaten on the face until she succumbed to death. The child also had a neck injury.
Their lifeless bodies were discovered on a blood-soaked mattress in their home in Kodwar B village, Kodumo East location.
The mother-in-law of the deceased found the bodies after unsuccessful attempts to reach them on the phone several times.
The area’s deputy chief, Mr. Denis Abongo, said the suspect is a casual laborer working in Sondu town.
However, he mentioned that the couple did not show any signs of discord before the murders.
“The couple had dinner together before going to sleep. The mother-in-law said she did not notice any signs of conflict between them,” Mr. Abongo said.
He added, “The suspect’s mother went to knock on the door, but no one answered. When she decided to enter the house, she found the bodies of the woman and her child.”
Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne stated that investigations are ongoing.
“Investigators are looking into the incident,” Commander Kinne said, adding that the man, who is currently in hiding, is the main suspect and will be questioned.
The bodies have been taken to the morgue at Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital.
