A man accused of impersonating an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officer in an attempt to blackmail and extort Sh100,000 from Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, was yesterday charged with the offence.
Victor Mayanja alias Joseph Kinuthia was arrested at the weekend as he reportedly sought to collect the money from Lusaka at a city hotel before being detained at Kileleshwa Police Station pending his arraignment.
The accused was grilled over threatening the Speaker with an exposé on corruption and embezzlement of funds and tarnishing his name and reputation.
The EACC imposter officer appeared before Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi where he denied three charges of impersonating as an investigator and attempting to extort by threats.
Mugambi directed the accused to be remanded at Industrial Area Remand Prison until September 6, 2021 for bail hearing.
