The changes were announced on March.

The new Rift Valley police commander is Tom Odero. He had been serving at the National Counter Terrorism Centre and swapped positions with Fredrick Ochieng.

Former Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi was moved to police headquarters Vigilance House as a liaison officer there.

The acting police boss for Nairobi is James Mugera.

The regional commanders, who are eight in number, act as former Provincial Police Officers, which was scrapped with the ushering in of the 2010 Constitution.

Police headquarters said the changes were aimed at boosting operations in the country.

A number of police commanders are yet to be promoted for years, which has affected their command in general. They share ranks with their supposed juniors yet they are supposed to command them which is affecting the command structure, insiders said.

Officials said the promotions are pending at the National Police Service Commission, which is supposed to brief the president on their plans before announcing the same.
