Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi to Marry Murang’a MP Betty Maina Amidst Wife’s Mysterious Death in 2020

Betty Maina, the woman representative for Murang’a County has finally accepted marriage proposal from Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.

IN 2020,The body of the wife of Eric Mwangi Wamumbi (Now MP Mathira and Betty Maina Lover ) was found in a dam on Monday morning.

Catherine Nyambura’s body was spotted by a local who was on his way to work.

The case had initially been reported as suspected suicide but preliminary findings showed the victim did not have any visible injuries, police said.

Through the help of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua ,Wamumbi contested the MP seat in 2022 and won.

Wamumbi and Betty Maina had made it public they were in love, it was not clear it would lead to a serious couple until last night the young first-time legislator said yes to the proposal at a dinner attended by some female politicians from Kikuyu community.

Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and nominated Senator Veronica Maina witnessed the joyful moment.

Betty had not been informed of the plans and when she was ambushed by Wamumbi who knelt down as he put a ring on her finger, she expressed surprise.

“And out of love , She said yes!” the Mathira Mp said after proposal was accepted.

Betty wrote; “One day at a time sweet Jesus. He makes all things beautiful in his own time. Thanks my sisters for organizing this wonderful surprise. My dear Eric, you rock!!!!” (proposal video below).

The two showed their relationship to the public from December last year during Wamumbi’s 35th birthday.

Few weeks ago, Wamumbi used some money allocated to Mathira constituency, which is in Nyeri County to help needy students at some schools in Murang’a County.

Before becoming MP, Wamumbi was MCA for Konyu Ward. The father of two lost his wife in a drowning incident suspected to be a suicide at Hohwe dam in Nyeri in May 2020.

Betty started her political career working in the office of then Murang’a woman rep Sabina Chege. She was then appointed director at Athi Water Works Development Agency by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The mother of two vied for the Murang’a seat in the last minutes. She separated with her baby daddy.

The two could not hide the joy afterwards.
