Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Dr. Eng Festus K Ng’eno  on Thursday  hosted a team from the World Resources Institute (WRI) led by Prof. Karanja Njoroge.

The meeting took place at his upper hill office and was attended by  Ruth Nyamasege (NDC Partnership) and Robina Kwamboka (Planning) ,Katie Connolly and Stephen Mwirigi from WRI, among others.

In his address, the Ps thanked WRI for their support in the production of the Ministerial Performance Statistical Report, which helped the Ministry identify areas of improvement, align with national goals, and inform future planning.

He additionally stated the Ministry is keen on producing the Ministerial Indicator Handbook, which will strengthen monitoring among other interventions.

“We have discussed Kenya’s investment plan to attract financial investment to support our NDC and climate action plan with the ultimate goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” Dr.  Ng’eno  said.

Earlier, the ministry of environment had identified transport sector as a major contributor of greenhouse gases in Kenya.

To address this, the Ministry partnered with WRI to establish monitoring sites in Nairobi to understand the temporal and spatial variations of pollutants from waste burning and public transport.

Additionally, the ministry through NAMA, a German-led project has announce to play a key role in  coordinating 25 million euros, 5-year project that aims to decarbonize the transport sector to help the country translate climate ambitions into action as well as create green jobs.
