Mark Mwenje the son to former Embakasi MP David Mwenje has announced interest to vie for Embakasi West parliamentary seat in August.

The MP aspirant vied unsuccessfully in 2017 against George Theuri but lost during party primaries.

Embakasi West Constituency encompasses the whole of Umoja Estate, parts of Kariobangi and Buruburu estates, some parts of Donholm and Kayole estates.

It is a small area with a considerable population to make it a constituency with 5 politicians; 4 members of County Assembly (MCAs) and a Member of the National Assembly.

During an interview with Newsline digital, Muriithi Mwenje said that once elected as the next MP for the region he will work with partners to give the constituent a new face that it deserves.

He said that Embakasi West constituency has returned to old days where residents relied solely on water trucks that charged exorbitant rates for the commodity. He said this was one of the things he would change if elected.

He added that the essence of devolution was to ensure funds are devolved to the grassroots, and for locals at the sub-county but this hasn’t been happening.

“We have so many problems just because people are not involved in development projects and funds are not devolved but mismanaged by the elite, resulting in underdevelopment,” he said.

He said if given a chance, he will put in place mechanism and structures that will uplift the youth and vulnerable groups so as to take part in nation-building.
