Nairobi County is on the brink of a groundbreaking technological advancement with the imminent introduction of the Nairobi City County Artisan Bureau.
This pioneering virtual platform is poised to revolutionize the artisan sector by facilitating the vetting, licensing, and seamless connection of artisans with their clients.
Propelled by a motion championed by Clay City MCA, Samora Mwaura, the county assembly has given its resounding approval to the establishment of this transformative initiative.
“The Nairobi City County Artisan Bureau promises unparalleled convenience for Nairobians, enabling them to remotely access and inquire about a wide array of artisan services, ranging from plumbing and electrical services to painting and beyond,” affirms MCA Samora.
According to MCA Samora, the implementation of this platform marks a significant step towards the formalization of the Juakali sector, which currently supports 60 percent of the workforce.
“By allowing citizens to vet and verify artisans before availing their services, the system aims to instill trust and reliability within the sector.”
Moreover, the platform is designed to alleviate the traditional challenges of locating reliable service providers within the city. “With just a few clicks, Nairobians will have access to a pool of vetted artisans, eliminating the need for personal connections or recommendations,” adds MCA Samora.
Crucially, akin to established digital platforms like Digital Taxi services, the Nairobi City County Artisan Bureau will empower users to track artisans’ performance and ensure accountability.
“By maintaining a database of contact details, the system will facilitate swift recourse in the event of underperformance or misconduct,” explains MCA Samora.
Mwaura emphasized that the initiative is not only a boon for consumers but also a potential source of revenue for the county.
“Through the introduction of affordable fees for artisans, the platform is set to generate income while promoting transparency and accountability.”
The integration of TVET institutions into the platform underscores its potential to nurture talent and create opportunities for students post-graduation.
“By offering automatic verification and direct connections to job opportunities, the Nairobi City County Artisan Bureau aims to bridge the gap between education and employment,” states MCA Samora.
The launch of the Nairobi City County Artisan Bureau heralds a new era of innovation and efficiency within Nairobi’s artisan sector.
As the county embraces digitization, this visionary platform promises to empower artisans, instill trust among consumers, and catalyze economic growth for the benefit of all stakeholders.
