The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has been given a 14-day ultimatum to fast track the prosecution of a private developer linked to land grabbing at the South B shopping centre.

Nairobi South B Member of County Assembly Chege Waithera has asked the DPP to play his role and present the private developer to court.

The  Ministry of Lands in June 2024 confirmed the piece of land that was under prolonged dispute belongs to the public.

The ministry had earmarked the piece of land for construction of a modern market to serve area residents.

The MCA is now questioning the DPP for taking too long despite the glairing evidence and confirmation presented to him by the ministry.

“ I am giving him 14 days to do his work promptly by presenting the land grabber to court lest we take alternative action to ensure justice is served,” she said.

While confirming the status of the land,Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome promised to ensure those behind the land grabbing are brought to justice.

“One of the land is the one at South B shopping centre which had been grabbed but we are now planning to set up a market since the problem has been sorted from our end,” she said.

The government is now building a market at the open space with over  2,000 traders expected to occupy it.

The MCA said the land had been grabbed by an MP, prompting protests from residents and a series of petitions to the Assembly.
