In a bid to tackle food insecurity, Naivas Supermarket has teamed up with Food Banking Kenya (FBK) to provide crucial support to families in need.
The partnership, announced on World Food Day, aims to assist 800 households in Korogocho, benefiting an estimated 4,000 people with essential food supplies.
This year’s World Food Day theme, “Right to Food for a Better Life & a Better Future,” aligns with Naivas’ community-centered mission of ensuring no one goes hungry. The retailer, a major player in Kenya’s supermarket industry, has emphasized the importance of giving back, underscoring that even small efforts can have a lasting impact on people’s lives.
“Buying and selling are central to any retail business, but at Naivas, we believe it’s equally important to contribute to the well-being of the communities we serve,” said Andreas Von Paleske, Naivas’ Chief of Strategy. “This partnership with FBK is part of our ongoing commitment to reducing food waste and addressing hunger.”
The donation will include staples like bread, flour, and milk, addressing immediate needs while laying the groundwork for future collaborations aimed at promoting sustainable food systems in Kenya. Naivas hopes the initiative will inspire others to take action in the fight against hunger.
Moses Nyoro, FBK’s Business Development Director, praised the collaboration, noting, “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to combat hunger and improve food security. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of many families.”
As the world observes World Food Day, Naivas and FBK urge communities, businesses, and organizations to unite in ensuring food security for all, with the hope of creating a future where hunger is no longer a global challenge.
