Magistrate imposter Victor Ng’eno will remain in custody for a further seven days to await a ruling on his bail application.

Ng’eno and his wife Mercy Chepkurui were yesterday charged at the Nakuru Law Courts with impersonation and fraud.

Appearing before Principal Magistrate Isaac Orenge, they denied the charges and through their lawyer, requested to be released on reasonable cash bail.

Prosecution, led by Monica Mburu, told the court that Ng’eno was a flight risk, since he does not have a known place of abode. However, Ng’eno’s lawyer, Kipkemboi Sirma, sought to have him released on bond, saying the complainants were relying on unsubstantiated claims.

The magistrate, however, released the second accused on a Sh350,000 cash bail after the prosecution informed the court they had no compelling reason to have her continue being detained.

Matter will be mentioned on November 2 further directions.
