NCA,Nairobi County government orders the tenants of a four-storey building in Mirema to vacate after the building developed cracks

The National Construction Authority (NCA) and Nairobi County government has ordered the tenants of a four-storey building in Mirema, Roysambu to vacate after the building developed cracks.

NCA marked the house on Monday and asked the residents to vacate to avert impending danger of the building caving in.

The building has been deemed dangerous and an illegal development, according to a notice to tenants from the Nairobi County Government.

In a video that NTV has in its possession, several lorries and pick-up trucks are seen lined up and ready to transport goods out of the structure.

In the notice, the director of planning and development in Nairobi County described the building as “illegal development i.e illegal cobstrcution of a structure upto 5 levels and occupation of the same. Ruinous and dangerous building”.

He further sent a enforcement notice asking for the “removal of the development immediately.”

The buiding has a medical centre on the ground floor and tenant home spaces on the other four floors.

The evacuation has been implemented as a precaution in light of the country’s rising number of building collapses, of which three cases have been reported this month.

On November 17, a multi-storey building that was being constructed in Kiambu’s Ruaka neighborhood collapsed, leaving two people dead. Around 5 a.m. on on the said day, a building collapsed on a couple’s home, killing both.

On November 21, only hours after tenants had been evacuated, a five-storey building in Ruiru, Kiambu County, collapsed as well due to structural cracks.

In another separate incident, three people were killed when a seven-storey buildingunder construction in the Kasarani neighborhood collapsed.
