Criminals are also smart to some extent. They are ever in touch with latest happenings and keep changing tactics to avoid getting ensnared.

That is what is happening with criminals using motorcycles to commit crime and get away without leaving traces.

Before they did it openly but now, they have come up with tactics.

One is, they are doing it in groups of three or four people using one motorcycle.

When they identify the target they pounce on them stealthily, snatch away their phones, handbags, back bags or other things in their hands then speed away.

Police says the reason they work in three or four is to have a squad that can fight back the first responders if the victim raises alarm.

“When they are three or four, they look like a mob. With crude weapons they carry, they can fight a similar number or more of responders for a short time before escaping” a cop says.

The other tactic is concealing number plates to make it harder tracing them through the registration of vehicles and motorcycles.

They do this by putting decoration like tying two bandanas at the back.

One tactic of concealing number plates.

During this rainy season, they smear the number plate with mud and in such case, it is hard to suspect because it is understandable road users will encounter puddles with dirty water, mud and end up murky.

Others fold the plate but after committing crime they straighten it to avoid arrest by traffic police or hawk-eyed sleuths.

This came to light after police arrested four men along Waiyaki Way, Nairobi riding a motorcycle with its number plate hidden.

The four; Fred Odhiambo, Newton Omondi, Caled Otieno and Frazen Kichaba had concealed the bike’s registration number KMFP 375J.

Police suspected they were on a mission to commit felony.

Today they were arraigned at Milimani Law courts where they were charged with intent to commit robbery with violence.

They were each released on a cash bail of Sh30,000 or alternative bond of Sh50,000.

Recently some snatchers on motorbikes have been caught on camera committing crime, even stealing from uniformed cops.
