The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has vowed to maintain its role as a watchdog over the government while championing policies that enhance the lives of Kenyans.

In a New Year message delivered by ODM’s Executive Director, Oduor Ong’wen, the party reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, social justice, and inclusivity as key pillars of its operations. Ong’wen highlighted the party’s steadfast resolve to push for reforms and defend devolution while advocating for solutions to challenges facing the nation.

“As we look to 2025, we call upon all Kenyans to embrace hope and unity. The challenges we face can only be overcome if we stand together, putting the interests of the nation above all else,” the statement read.

Reflecting on the party’s achievements in 2024, Ong’wen noted the revitalization of ODM’s grassroots structures through recent internal elections. This, he said, has allowed the party to reconnect with supporters and articulate their aspirations more effectively.

“Whether in championing justice, fighting for electoral reforms, or defending devolution, we have remained steadfast in our resolve to build a better Kenya,” Ong’wen said, adding, “The role each of you plays, whether as a party member, supporter, or citizen who believes in our values, is invaluable.”

Focus on Challenges and Pragmatic Solutions

Acknowledging the hurdles Kenyans face, including the rising cost of living, unemployment, and inequality, ODM reiterated its commitment to advocating for pragmatic solutions. The party emphasized its dedication to ensuring every Kenyan has access to decent livelihoods, quality healthcare, and education.

“ODM pledges to continue holding the government accountable while offering pragmatic solutions to the issues affecting our people,” Ong’wen said.

A Message of Hope and Resilience

As the year comes to an end, the party extended its gratitude to Kenyans for their resilience and support. Ong’wen concluded with warm greetings on behalf of ODM and its interim party leader, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.

“This year has been one of resilience, growth, and renewed determination as we navigated challenges and celebrated victories together as a movement and as a nation,” Ong’wen said.

ODM’s call for unity and its commitment to holding the government accountable underscore its vision of building a better Kenya as the country steps into 2025.
