OPPO Kenya Offers Legal Support to Influencers Amid Pay Dispute with AIfluence

OPPO Kenya has responded to concerns raised by influencers regarding payment issues related to their participation in the OPPO Reno12 series campaign.

The company has clarified that it engaged the services of influencer marketing agency AIfluence to manage contracts, deliverables, and payments for the campaign.

According to OPPO Kenya, an initial 50% down payment was made to AIfluence to facilitate influencer compensation, with the remaining 50% remitted upon campaign completion on October 25, 2024.

The company emphasized that all influencers signed contracts directly with AIfluence rather than OPPO Kenya.

"It is important to note that all influencers in this campaign signed direct contracts with the agency and not OPPO Kenya; however, we deeply empathize with the affected influencers. OPPO Kenya fulfilled all its financial obligations by making full payments to the said agency, AIfluence; this information was communicated to the influencers either directly or through their respective managers," the company said in a statement.

In an effort to support those impacted, OPPO Kenya has offered legal assistance, including covering legal costs, for influencers seeking action against AIfluence. The company noted that none of the affected influencers have taken up this offer to date.

Additionally, OPPO Kenya has initiated legal proceedings against AIfluence for defamation and brand damage caused by the agency’s failure to fulfill its payment obligations. The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair compensation for influencers and fostering positive partnerships within Kenya’s creative industry.

“OPPO Kenya values the contributions of all influencers and creatives. We remain dedicated to protecting their rights and ensuring they receive fair compensation,” the statement read.

The company reassured the public that it does not condone the frustrations experienced by the influencers involved and will continue to support those affected by the situation.
