Two people are nursing serious injuries after they were mauled by a stray lion at Mwakambi in Chonyi, Kilifi county.
Simon Kazungu, a boda boda rider at Kolongoni village, who witnessed the attack, said Chilumo Chiro and Baraka Tuva were responding to a distress call by a group of young boys who were herding their livestock in a nearby bush.
“They rushed to the bush to establish what was happening. That is when they were attacked by a lion that was hiding in the bush as the boys took off,” he said.
Mwakambi assistant chief Simon Munga said the government has dispatched a team of Kenya Wildlife Service officers to capture the lion and urged residents to be vigilant to avoid attack.
“We are optimistic that the lion shall be captured and returned back to its natural habitat.”
