Parents have been encouraged to consider enrolling their children in technical colleges to equip them with essential skills required in today’s job market.
Speaking during a talent search event at Sunrise Training College in Thika on Sunday, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Maina Karobia emphasized the importance of technical education in bridging the skills gap among young people.
“We must invest in education that guarantees job opportunities. Technical skills are in high demand, and institutions like Sunrise Training College are playing a key role in ensuring young people are well-prepared for the job market,” Karobia stated.
The event, which brought together hundreds of young talents, saw 17 needy students receive full scholarships to study computer courses at the college curtsy of the MP and the school management.
The highlight of the day was the highly contested Mr. and Miss Sunrise College competition, which showcased the creativity and artistic talents of students.
Karobia pledged to support the youth in acquiring skills that would make them competitive in the evolving job market.
“We believe in creating platforms where young people can express themselves artistically while also gaining critical technical skills. I will continue to support such initiatives to help nurture and empower them,” he said.
He also cited the Talanta Hela Digital Hub, which was launched in October 2023, as another key initiative that provides training and mentorship programs for young talents, helping them develop careers in various fields.
Sunrise Training College Director, Mrs. Joyce Murabu, expressed gratitude for the support extended to the students and the institution.
“This initiative is a game-changer, as it allows young people to access quality education and develop marketable skills that are crucial in today’s competitive job landscape,” she said.
She further encouraged the youth to focus on their education, emphasizing that it serves as a gateway to a better future.
“Education is the key to good living. This event highlights our commitment to bridging gaps in education and artistic development through talent search programs and technical training.”
She noted that the Talent Search Event underscored a growing commitment to youth empowerment, bringing together education, creativity, and career development to uplift young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
