President William Ruto on Thursday awarded a charter to the Open University of Kenya during a ceremony held at Konza Technopolies City in Machakos County on Thursday.
The event was attended by various prominent leaders, including senior government officials, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Members of Parliament, and Governors.

During the function, President Ruto expressed his satisfaction that the awarding of the charter to the Open University of Kenya aligns with the requirements of the law and will significantly contribute to the advancement of University Education in Kenya.
He cited Section 24 (1b) of the University Act as the basis for granting the charter to the esteemed institution.
In a resolute statement, President Ruto, who also holds the title of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, officially conferred the charter to the Open University of Kenya on August 3, 2023.
He extended his best wishes for the university’s future success and growth.
The charter award signifies a significant milestone for the Open University of Kenya, opening new avenues for the institution to continue its mission of providing quality education and contributing to the development of higher education in the country.
With this recognition, the university is poised to expand its offerings and serve a broader community of learners, further strengthening Kenya’s education landscape.
