The Nairobi City County Assembly will hold a special sitting on February 5,2024 for an address by President William Ruto.
The address will be the first ever in history of the assembly, which is the second biggest parliament in terms of numbers of legislators in the country.
While the set date remains tentative, subject too possible State House changes, Minority Leader Peter Kiragu told the house during a special sitting on Thursday that the President will indeed address the assembly- a statement that was backed by Speaker Ken Ngondi.
Kiragu called on all the MCAs to honor the address that will also be attended by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja,Members of Parliament and other state officials.
” I call upon everyone of us to honor this address with maximum respect because it is the first ever in our history,” Kiragu said.
The President is expected to address pressing issues in the county,among them the cleaning of Nairobi River with has become an environment turn off,the affordable housing program,water shortage and other issues affecting Nairobi residents.
The President on January 12,2025 while attending a church service promised a good working relationship between the State House and City Hall.He pledged to back the ongoing transformation of the capital city.
Governor Sakaja has in the meantime intensified efforts to kick out hawkers from the Central Business District,an effort that is backed by the state as Nairobi seeks to restore order and help businesses thrive.
