Billionaire Esther Muchemi says her journey is that of hardwork and resilience since her school days in Central region.
The CEO Samchi Group of Companies who is regarded as one of the prettiest female billionaires has failed, dusted herself up and soldiered on in businesses, social life and during her childhood.
While she was in high school she once tailed in exams but later emerged the top best students and kept good performances up to university.

Esther was born in Thunguri village in Othaya, Nyeri County and it is here she started her primary school education before shifting to Murang’a for her secondary education.
She enrolled at Kamahuha Girls Secondary School when it was a small school in Murang’a.
“At the time it had a low ranking. I became not only the best student in form one, but the best in all the subjects. I was allowed to transfer to Kahuhia Girls high school” she recalls.

At Kahuhia Girls an incident changed her life completely. Being among the last students in examinations made her rethink her future.
“To my surprise, in my first term in that new school , that is in form two I was ranked among the last in class.This made me realise that I needed to work very hard to get out of that undesired position. In the second term I was among the first ten” She says.
Adding; “This motivated me to work even harder and in the third term, I was in the top three. By the time I did my form four exams, I was at the top of my class”.

In Form Six she emerged top of her class and their school was third position nationwide.
“This reinforced my belief I was meant for greatness and all I needed was to go for it”.
The graduate of Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of Nairobi worked as an auditor for 16 years for Ernest & Young and PKF audit companies before quitting in 2000 to start a shop in Nairobi CBD dealing with phone accessories, airtime and sim-cards.

The shop grew into an empire. She now owns telecoms company, notable buildings in Nairobi city Centre; After 40 Hotel along Biashara Street and El-Roi Plaza along Tom Mboya Street. She has also invested in microfinance and hospitality industry.
