Principal Secretary for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, Susan Auma Mangeni, has initiated a collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a to promote socio-economic empowerment among its faithful.
During a meeting with Rt. Rev. James Maria Wainaina, Bishop of the Diocese of Murang’a, PS Mangeni highlighted the Catholic Church’s extensive grassroots networks as an effective platform for driving poverty alleviation efforts. She acknowledged the diocese’s existing programs, such as Tezor, which provides affordable credit to self-help groups in Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties, boosting household incomes and supporting small businesses.
“The Catholic Church has been a critical development partner, investing in education and healthcare to address illiteracy and disease. Now, we must work together to confront the persistent challenge of poverty,” PS Mangeni stated.
She praised President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration for creating a structured framework to guide poverty eradication, presenting new opportunities for collaboration with faith-based organizations.
The State Department for MSME Development pledged to work closely with the church to advance the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), focusing on economic inclusion and empowerment at the grassroots level.
“Through partnerships like this, we can accelerate the fight against poverty and uplift communities across the country,” concluded PS Mangeni.
