Reason why Kipchoge Wears Detached Sleeves During Races

Eliud Kipchoge is arguably the best marathoner in the world having crossed the 42 Km finish line under two hours. 

Kipchoge has had huge and enviable achievements in his career after winning various titles like the 2016 and 2020 Olympic marathon and recently winning the Tokyo 2022 Marathon.

He is known to train at Iten in Elgeyo Marakwet county with the athletics camp providing conducive environment for high performances. However. a lot still goes in to boost Eliud’s stellar performance.

In his recent races, the 37-year-old long distance runner has been spotted running with detached sleeves on his arms leaving many with unanswered questions. 

Many athletes have embraced the use of running arm sleeves. Arm sleeves are mainly worn for the benefits of the compression they provide.

According to some sports medicine reports, compression helps to stabilise the arm muscles.

The arm sleeves are also known to boost blood flow which helps in athletes recovery after hard exercise or minor injuries.

With the compression, lactic acid that may have build up in the muscles is cleared, preventing cramps during the races and allowing fast recovery.

The arm sleeve also protects athletes from UV exposure as the runners spend hours in the sun. The sleeves also keep the athlete’s cool apart from helping them not get sunburns.
