The Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has dismissed as fake a public notice circulating on social media about a political party supposedly connected to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In an official statement shared on the ORPP’s official X account, the office clarified that the notice regarding the provisional registration of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) was a fabrication.
The fake notice, which appeared on Wednesday, falsely listed Gachagua along with his allies, Cleophas Malala and Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, as founding members of the DPP. It also claimed the party’s symbol was “Mulima” (Mountain), with the slogan “Mulima Mbele” and colours of brown, light blue, and white.
The ORPP categorically stated that the notice, which suggested that the public could file objections to the provisional registration of the party within seven days, violated the law. Under the Political Parties Act and ORPP regulations, a political party that advances the interests of a specific region or group cannot be provisionally or fully registered by the ORPP.
The ORPP also clarified that the legitimate provisional registration notice, published on December 17, 2024, concerned three other political parties: the Forum for Economic Development Agenda (FEDA), Kenya United Generation Party (KUG), and The Future Party (TFP).
These parties had been properly registered, and their founding members were listed along with their respective slogans and official colours.
“The correct notice published on December 17th is available on our website,” the ORPP said. “Kindly be informed and share the legitimate information.”
The ORPP urged Kenyans to disregard the fraudulent notice and ensure they only relied on official communication from the office.
