The leader of The New Democrats Party, Thuo Mathenge, has clarified recent reports suggesting that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had acquired the party.

Mathenge emphasized that the New Democrats Party remains open to all members of the public and plays a significant role in the Mount Kenya region’s political landscape.

“As TND party leader, I want to clarify that nobody, including Gachagua as alleged, has taken ownership of the party. However, he (Gachagua) is warmly welcomed to join. Anyone else outside who is willing to join, please come forward. This is the party that will play a crucial role in uniting the GEMA community,” stated Thuo.

However, a letter from Njeri Rugene, Head of the Deputy Presidential Communication Service, refuted the allegations, terming them malicious.

Thuo further rejected claims made by Gachagua’s communication team that the TND party has dubious affiliations, stating that none of its members exhibited questionable character.

He also announced plans for a national delegates conference to elect a new deputy party leader following the recent resignation of Jimmy Kibaki.

“Yes, Jimmy Kibaki resigned as deputy party leader, and we will be holding an NDC meeting soon to select his appropriate successor. All political parties have the clause of joining and leaving the party, and it’s well stipulated and allowed by the registrar of political parties in Kenya,” Thuo affirmed.

In a statement to the media, Jimmy Kibaki explained his decision to resign from The New Democrats party, citing the need to prioritize urgent family and business matters.

He expressed gratitude for his tenure in the party and his involvement in Kenya’s political landscape since the reintroduction of multiparty politics.
