Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua joined the people of Kiambu and the Mitahato community in Ngewa, Githunguri, to offer his condolences to Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and his family as they mourned the loss of two loved ones.
The senator’s brother, Martean Wainaina Thang’wa, and sister-in-law, Penninah Wanjiru, were both laid to rest in a heart-wrenching ceremony that brought the community together in shared grief.
Speaking at the service, Gachagua acknowledged the profound pain of losing two family members simultaneously, noting that such loss is especially hard to bear.
“In death, people feel helpless and desperate, but those who believe and hope in Jesus Christ await new life in resurrection,” he said, offering words of comfort to the grieving family. He prayed for God to grant Senator Karungo and his family the strength to endure their immense loss.
The solemn occasion was attended by several leaders, including Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Senators John Methu (Nyandarua), Wahome Wamatinga (Nyeri), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), Joe Nyutu (Murang’a), John Kinyua (Laikipia), Okiya Omtatah (Busia), and nominated Senators Karen Nyamu and Veronica Maina.
Also present were MPs Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Peter Kihungi (Kangema), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk (Embakasi Central), George Koimburi (Juja), Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa), Njoroge Kururia (Gatundu North), John Machua (Kiambu Town), and nominated MP Teresiah Wanjiru. Other notable figures who came to console the family included EALA MP Maina Karobia, former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, and several MCAs.
