The government anticipates collecting Sh4.2 billion daily starting from the next year, 2023, following the introduction of electronic government services. This move is expected to enable the government to amass Sh1.4 trillion by December 2024.
In a statement confirmed by Taifa Leo Digital, during this period, online citizen services have increased from 397 to 13,645, with registered users reaching 12,083,914.
Last year, in 2023, government revenue through this platform collected Sh60 million daily. Julius Bitok, the Secretary of Immigration and Citizen Services, stated that these revenues have grown, with the government now collecting Sh350 million daily.
Ambassador Bitok mentioned that the government expects to collect revenues of Sh1 billion daily by the end of December 2023.
According to the Secretary of the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau, who is also the chair of the electronic system, many ministries, departments, and agencies have followed the president’s directive.
She has also urged all government departments to work closely with electronic management to ensure full compliance with the directives.
“To ensure compliance with directives remains a standing agenda in all important meetings within your docket. This will be beneficial in ensuring progress and accountability to meet the deadlines,” said Ms. Wanjau.
In a memo dated December 1 to all Cabinet Secretaries, Ms. Wanjau emphasized that the directives must be strictly followed.
During the 2022 Republic Day celebrations, President Ruto ordered the placement of 5,000 services on the website within six months (by June 30, 2023).
The head of state also directed the closure of unspecified payment systems and the transfer to the designated payment number 222222 announced in the government gazette.
