Kenya has adopted a different position from the African Union (AU) regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
A statement released by President William Ruto expresses support for Israel, while the AU states that Palestinians have been denied their fundamental rights.
“Kenya stands in solidarity with Israel and condemns terrorism and attacks on the innocent citizens of that nation,” the President said in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
On the other hand, AU Chairman Mr. Moussa Faki differs with President Ruto on which side should be blamed for the violence.
“The Chairperson of the African Union recalls that the people of Palestine were denied their fundamental rights, particularly those of an independent state,” a section of the AU statement read.

However, both President Ruto and Mr. Faki agree on the need for a ceasefire on both sides.
They have also called for the initiation of a reconciliation plan to bring peace between Israel and Palestine.
The Israeli military reported that dozens of people were killed, and a significant number were taken hostage.
This follows a surprise attack by Palestinian militants, Hamas, on Israel on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
According to the UK’s BBC News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Hamas is responsible for their well-being and that Israel will take action against anyone who harms them.
At least 232 Palestinians have been killed and 1,600 injured in the aftermath of Israel’s response to Hamas attacks.
