Deputy President William Ruto will storm Opposition chief Raila Odinga’s Nyanza backyard to drum up support for his presidential ambition.

In his three-day tour, the DP is scheduled to inspect government projects in Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori Counties.

Ruto has been avoiding Luo Nyanza and only opting for campaigns in Kisii, Nyamira and Kuria touted as swing regions.

Buoyed by a warm reception during his visit to Awendo town recently, the DP wants to stake a claim.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) deputy Organising Secretary Eliud Owalo said Ruto was keen to seek votes in Nyanza.

“Ruto is happy to visit Nyanza and he will be here almost for the entire week, to talk to the people and listen to how they want to be governed,’’ said Owalo Ruto tour’s starts today in Kisumu where he is expected to meet local professionals before addressing a public gathering in Kondele.

According to Owalo, the DP intends to utilise the tour to market his Bottom-Up economic model and spell out his development agenda for Nyanza region, where a number of women and youth groups have been listed to benefit from his visit.

Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama asked Nyanza residents to give Ruto a befitting welcome.

But in his visit to Migori, he will avoid Kuria East and Kuria West Constituencies. Kitayama said he will handle the twin constituencies, separately on another visit.
