Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua might not be planning on waiting until 2032 before vying for President, political analyst Danstan Omari says.
He has predicted that instead, the DP might be seen trying to forcefully take over from his current boss William Ruto in the next elections slated for 2027.
This, he opines, is the best explanation for the offensive Gachagua has been on lately, as he tries to take over the Mt Kenya region and it’s leaders.
The lawyer counsels that Gachagua is aware that he can easily dislodge Ruto from the presidency with Mt Kenya behind him, as it is what made Ruto president.

“Gachagua is aware that the majority of Kikuyu never voted for Ruto [but] voted against Raila and Uhuru. It was a protest vote. He also knows that 47 per cent of the votes Ruto got came from Mt Kenya,” the commentator told The Star.
Omari has pointed out that Gachagua has also been campaigning out of Mt Kenya, which should further worry Ruto, if he wants a reelection.
“So, he feels he has enough people and resources to take on Ruto. And that is why Ruto has started campaigning outside Mt Kenya. He is focusing on Western, Coast and Northeastern,” he adds.
