President William Ruto has launched the construction of the 65-kilometre Illasit-Rombo-Taveta Road, a KSh9.4 billion project that will improve connectivity between Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties.

The project is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve infrastructure, particularly in rural and Urban areas.

Speaking, president Ruto said that the road will boost tourism, trade, and access to essential services, ultimately enhancing economic development in the region.

“The KSh9.4 billion project underscores the Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, especially in rural and marginal areas, to further balanced development in the country.,” said President Ruto.

The road will provide a faster and smoother connection to key wildlife destinations such as Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks. Tourists travelling to these parks will experience reduced travel time.

“This road is not just about reducing travel time; it is about transforming livelihoods. Farmers will be able to transport their produce efficiently, traders will get better market access, and investors will find it easier to do business in this region,” the President added.

Residents of Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties welcomed the project, expressing optimism that it would address the challenges they have faced due to poor road infrastructure.

Many traders and boda boda operators said the new road would improve their daily operations by making transport more efficient and reducing vehicle maintenance costs.

Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who was present at the event, assured the public that the project would be completed on time and built to high standards.

He reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring that every region gets quality road networks to support economic growth.
