President William Ruto must address the emerging cracks in his nascent government promptly, as it should concern us all.
The reported disagreement between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, both holding crucial positions in the government, is not helping matters.
Furthermore, the latest Tifa opinion poll indicates that 41% of Kenyans cannot name any of the 22 CS who have made significant contributions to the government.
A government’s responsibility is to protect and provide for its citizens who have elected it into power.
To achieve a globally competitive economy and a well-functioning society, the government must provide public goods at a level necessary.
However, the current division within the government raises concerns and could negatively impact the performance of the Ruto administration.
This division could further erode the confidence Kenyans have in the government, leading to a crisis of trust, as President Ruto strives to revive the economy.
Rebuilding trust in the Cabinet and state institutions will not be an easy or quick task.
However, it is crucial to take the first step towards building a strong foundation of governance. Ruto must ensure that his Cabinet members are on the same page, implementing agreed-upon programs collectively, and working towards the same goals.
The DP further lashed out at the media saying they portrayed them negatively during the campaign period but gladly, their opinion did not count since voters still elected them.
“You can write headlines but you will never stop us from speaking the truth. We now have a chance to work for Kenyans, they will judge us on the basis of our output,” he said.
