Gerald Gikonyo Kanyuira, over 100 years old and still counting, the only remaining patriarch of the great capitalist boys from Rwathia village was on Thursday visited by Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe.

Taking to social media,Igathe expressed happiness after he was blessed to take over the leadership of Nairobi County.

This what Igathe wrote

“Do you have passion for Nairobi County and its People?” This is the question, Mzee Gerald Gikonyo Kanyuira asked when I paid him a visit.

My answer was YES and my answer is still YES. If you know the history of Nairobi, then you must know the Rwathia Group of entrepreneurs and Mzee Gerald Gikonyo Kanyuira.

A story of unrivalled dedication, passion and inspiration setting an example in ambition, personal discipline, frugality and entrepreneurship. “We cannot achieve much alone”.

And this is the biggest lesson that Mzee Gikonyo Kanyuira shares as he narrates how he and the Rwathia Group built their business empire in Nairobi.

A man of honor and an iconic custodian of the ‘Key to Nairobi’s Door’. From a man who came to Nairobi in 1928 in search of a better life, I chose to sit with him and get his blessing as I run for Nairobi Governor.

To Mzee Gikonyo, asante sana. The story of the Rwathia group is one that will continue to be told and one, Nairobi will not forget.
