Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has refuted claims of her suspension from the Senate by the Senate Powers and Privileges committee.

While speaking at the Uasin Gishu devolution conference held on Wednesday, Orwoba clarified that she did not face suspension despite losing a motion. She emphasized her continued active participation in the House and her commitment to advocating for women’s rights.

This clarification comes after the Senate’s disciplinary committee, led by Speaker Amason Kingi, suspended Orwoba on August 10 for alleged gross misconduct. Her suspension is effective until February of the following year.

The disciplinary action was taken due to Orwoba’s failure to respond to the committee’s invitations and summons, which aimed to address serious allegations against her.

The charges against Orwoba leading to her suspension were twofold. In the first charge, she was accused of making unsubstantiated claims about instances of pursuing sexual favors within Parliament.

The committee highlighted that she had posted messages on the Senate Business WhatsApp Group on various dates.

The second charge accused Orwoba of disrespecting fellow senators and implying improper motives. The committee found her guilty of making allegations of discrimination within Parliament and suggesting the existence of kickbacks for legislative agenda, contrary to the law.

The Senate plans to debate the committee’s findings and subsequently take a vote to determine the course of action concerning Orwoba’s suspension.
