StarTimes Launches Next Super Star Talent Search to Empower Young Creatives

StarTimes Media has officially launched a new and exciting talent search initiative dubbed The Next Super Star, aimed at discovering and promoting the next generation of entertainment talents across Kenya and Africa.

The colorful event held at Pullman hotel upper hill was graced by top dignitaries including StarTimes CEO Jimmy Carter, Principal Secretary – State Department for Youth Affairs & Creative Economy Jacob Fikirini, Kenya Film Commission (KFC) CEO Timothy Owase, and StarTimes Marketing Director Miss Tamima Ibrahim.

The show will officially premiere on 3rd May 2025 and run until August 2025, airing exclusively on Rembo TV and Rembo Plus and will will be hosted by Eddie Butita and Amina Abdi Rabar while judges includes King Kaka, Size8 Reborn and Motif the Don.

Speaking during the launch, StarTimes CEO Jimmy Carter expressed the company’s commitment to nurturing young creatives, revealing that the company has invested over Ksh 100 million into the production of the show.

He said that the show will have 13 live episodes, 13 mid-week episodes and finally where 18 contestants will walk away with gifts valued more than one million shilling noting that the show will be purely singing competition.

“Next Super Star” is poised to become a launch pad for Kenya’s brightest new talents, offering them exposure, mentorship, and the chance to shine on a national stage,” he said.

Principal Secretary Jacob Fikirini applauded StarTimes for the initiative, emphasizing the government’s dedication to building a robust creative economy.

He said that the government is keen on revamping the creative and Orange Economy by creating enablers that facilitate investments in the film and creative industries.

He said that Initiatives like ‘Next Super Star’ align with the Kenya Kwanza administration vision to put money in the pockets of creatives and foster job creation for the youths.

“We are determined to create an environment where youth talents are recognized, nurtured, and turned into sustainable careers. Programs like Next Super Star align perfectly with the government’s agenda of promoting youth empowerment through the creative industry,” said PS Fikirini.

Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase highlighted the critical role of the Orange Economy which he maintained has a potential of creating job opportunities for the youths.

He said that KFC goal is to make Kenyan content immediately recognizable and valued, not just locally but on the international stage noting that by investing in exclusive productions and providing a dedicated platform for local talent, this will contribute to the growth of talents.

“The creative industry has a potential of injecting capitals in our economy, by investing in talent, we are investing in Kenya’s future. We will continue partnering with private sectors to make industry work, The Next Super Star project is a major step in awakening the Orange Economy, and we at Kenya Film Commission are proud to support such initiatives,” Owase stated.

StarTimes Marketing Director Tamima Ibrahim reiterated the company’s ongoing commitment to producing high-quality, engaging, and locally relevant content.

“We believe that Africa is bursting with incredible talent that simply needs a platform to shine. StarTimes will continue to invest in empowering young people through initiatives like Next Super Star. This is not just about entertainment, it’s about building dreams and boosting our creative economy,” she said.

She underscored the importance of public-private collaborations in unlocking the full potential of Kenya’s creative industries noting that the company will continue investing in quality contents a move that will create job opportunities for Kenyans.
