StarTimes, in collaboration with the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK), celebrated the outstanding achievements of nine coaches by presenting them with the Coach of the Month Awards for their exceptional performances from April to December 2023.

The vibrant ceremony took place in Nairobi, where each coach received a personalized trophy and a 55-inch television set as part of the accolade.

Speaking at the event, Jimmy Carter Luo, the CEO of StarTimes Media Kenya, expressed the company’s unwavering commitment to promoting sports and nurturing local talent throughout the country.

He highlighted the partnership with SJAK, emphasizing its goal to support talent development at the grassroots level.

“We are delighted to collaborate with SJAK to promote talent, impacting lives across various organizations to create a better society,” he remarked.

Luo also shared his excitement about StarTimes broadcasting 52 AFCON matches, revealing a partnership with Safaricom to offer viewers three hours of AFCON bundles for only Ksh 50.

Flabia Othim, a representative from Safaricom, announced a tailored data bundle package designed for football enthusiasts, ensuring uninterrupted streaming of matches at an affordable rate.

“We have a package tailored for football lovers. Through our unique partnership with StarTimes we will ensure that football lovers can stream a match for three hours without any interruption for just ksh 50.” Said Othim.

SJAK President James Waindi commended the partnership with StarTimes, especially during the AFCON 2023, acknowledging the recognition of coaches’ efforts.

He extended congratulations to all the coaches honored for their excellent performances.

“We are very pleased with the partnership with StarTimes. It comes at an ideal time where all eyes are on AFCON 2023. We mostly award players of the month, but not the person who is behind their success. Thank you StarTimes for appreciating the efforts made by our coaches. I would like to congratulate all the coaches being awarded today for their excellence performance.” He said.

Among those awarded during the event includes Martin Abunde, head coach of Roll Ball national team was named April’s Coach of the month in a colourful ceremony held in Nairobi.

Boniface Nyamuhnyamuh of Vihiga Queens football team was named May’s winner for guiding Vihiga Queens to the coveted 2022-2023 FKF Women’s Premier League title.

Gor Mahia’s tactician Jonathan McKinstry won the June 2023 award after helping his side win their record 20th FKF Premier League title.

July 2023 winner Patrick Odhiambo won the award after helping Kakamega Homeboyz win their first ever silverware.

Nyamira Girls hockey team coach Eliakim Obondo won the August award after helping Nyamira Girls rack up their first ever East African Secondary School games title two months after leading his side win the KSSSA National title in 32 years.

Other winners were Kevin Wambua of Rugby-Kenya Sevens in September, Japhet Munala of KCB Women Volleyball team in October, Moses Andiwo of Equity Chess in November and Evelyne Kedogo of Basketball 3 by 3 in December.
