The State has dropped rape charges against the late former Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti.
When the case came up for mention before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni, the prosecution led by senior State prosecutor Anderson Gikunda, informed the court that the State had struck out Mwiti’s name from the charge sheet.
His co-accused, David Muchiri; a medical practitioner will however stand trial, Gikunda told the court. The magistrate directed the matter to be mentioned on January 6, to confirm the number of witnesses expected to testify in the case during the hearing.
Before his death, Mwiti had denied three counts of rape, intimidation and assault against a woman at Tana Club, along Woodvale Groove in Westlands, Nairobi County on March 21, 2015.
