Mount Kenya region based water organization, Tana Water Works Development Agency has chipped in to promote the undertakings of recently rehabilitated drugs and alcohol addicts.

The group, working from Hiriga Health Centre in Kiamariga Township in Mathira constituency received a 10,000 litre water tank, which they will be using to store the commodity for watering seedlings.

The agency chairman Wanyaga Gathaka presented the tank to the group through the coordinator of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua‘s spouse charity organisation; Dorcas Rigathi Foundation.

The coordinator, Bishop Barnabas Kinyua, while receiving the donation said it will ease water shortage in the group’s main activity of nurturing seedlings.

He said that apart from the seedlings project, the group of men and women was involved in sporting activities as a way of keeping away from drugs and alcohol.

He disclosed that the group members recently underwent a rehabilitation programme after indulging in various drugs and alcoholic beverages.

After coming out of the rehabilitation, Pastor Dorcas took over the role of mentoring them and, through her foundation, she funded the seedlings nurturing programme which they undertake at the compound of the health facility.

The Bishop revealed that the Second Lady was carrying out such activities in various other parts of the mountain region where he coordinates her programmes and also in other parts of the country.

Gideon Kamwiti, the group supervisor thanked the Second Lady for her kind gesture saying most of the members were now able to make a saving from the wages they get for engaging in the project.

He said with adequate water supply, they will now be able to realize their dream of having over 500,000 seedlings in the next few months.
Wilson Nguri, a member revealed that him and other members were now able to invest since they no longer engaged themselves in alcoholism activities.

While presenting the tank, the Agency chairman said they were planning to drill and equip a borehole.
The borehole, he noted will be expected to supply the commodity to the local public institutions and also some farmers.
