It’s not in doubt that former president Uhuru Kenyatta was one of the few social heads of state, especially in Africa, a trait he exhibited not once, not twice, but on several occasions during his term.
Whenever he was out there whether on official or unofficial capacity, he always had a tendency of reaching out to the people which at times gave his security detail a hell of a time protecting him.
His nature was once cemented by a narration from former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo during a past interview on Jeff Koinange Live.
Jirongo narrated how he was astonished when Uhuru once woke up at 6 in the morning, sneaked out of his house and went to milk cows.
In the 2016 interview, the former lawmaker remembered that during Uhuru’s campaigns (year not quoted), he spent a night at his (Jirongo) home in Kitale.
The following morning, the former president got up before his host, went to the cowshed and started milking cows without the knowledge of the former MP.

He then went on to pack the milk and load it onto to a pick-up ready for transportation while all this time, Jirongo was still asleep.
“At 6 O’clock, Uhuru Kenyatta was in my boma milking cows, something I forgot doing myself. He loaded the milk onto the pick-up, I was still asleep… He beat me in my own home,” remembered the former MP.
This trait was probably cultivated in his early years when despite being brought up in a royal setting, he was pushed to sweat for his income.
Among the jobs he did was being a teller at KCB bank after completing his studies at Amherst College, as well as farming and exporting vegetables.
At his company Wilham Kenya Limited, he oversaw the day to day running of operations which included sourcing farm products from as far as Meru, packing and selling them.
Within six years, the company had expanded into a multi-million business before he sold it and entered the political arena.
