As the political landscape in Mt Kenya undergoes a transformative shift, the emergence of The New Democrats (TND) party, under the leadership of billionaire and business magnate Thuo Mathenge, promises to revolutionize the region’s political dynamics.
The recent rebranding of the party over the weekend, accompanied by substantial support from delegates of rival political parties, marks a significant turning point as the nation gears up for the 2027 general election.
TND’s inclusive approach is evident in its ability to draw support from various political factions, including the Democratic Party of Kenya, KANU, Jubilee, and the defunct TNA party.
This unprecedented coalition showcases a commitment to transcend traditional party boundaries for the greater good of the Mt Kenya region.
Thuo Mathenge, a prominent figure in the business world, is poised to bring his leadership acumen to the political forefront.
His commitment to fostering unity within the Mt Kenya region is a cornerstone of TND’s mission.
During interview with Opera News, Mathenge’s announcement of a forthcoming meeting with Mt Kenya leaders reflects a dedication to building consensus and promoting a united front.
He said that the TND party is optimistic about its electoral prospects, with Thuo Mathenge expressing confidence in securing over 100 seats across the country. This ambitious goal signals a bold vision for TND’s role on the national stage, indicating an intention to extend beyond regional influence.
“At the heart of TND’s agenda are three key pillars: unity, growth, and prosperity for the Mt Kenya region. The party aims to unite diverse communities under a common vision, spur economic growth, and usher in an era of shared prosperity. This focus on core values sets TND apart as a party with a clear mission and purpose,”he said.
He said that the defection of prominent leaders from KANU, such as John Ngure Gathungu (Chairman), Francis Hinga (Vice-Chairman), Moses Waweru Mugo (Secretary General), Jane Muthee (Women Leader), and Jane Thara (Chairperson Gichugu), demonstrates a strategic alignment of experienced political figures with TND’s vision.
The addition of former Ngobit MCA Robert Maina (Roberto) and former Kirimukuyu MCA James Kibira further strengthens TND’s grassroots connections. Their involvement signifies a growing appeal for TND among established community leaders who see the party as a vehicle for positive change.
He noted that The New Democrats party’s rebranding and strategic alliances suggest a promising future for Mt Kenya politics.
