The proprietor of Self Logistics Limited in Mombasa, Feisal Saad, is now under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
Initially, what seemed to be a straightforward business deal has turned into a legal issue as detectives seek Saad for failing to settle a debt owed to Yemame Medhane, a transporter based in Mombasa.
In May 2021, Saad engaged Medhane’s services to transport goods from Mombasa to Bor in South Sudan.
A written agreement was formalized on May 5, 2021, stipulating a payment of $4,400. Saad made an initial payment of $3,520 and was expected to clear the remaining balance of $880 (equivalent to Sh135,124) within 14 days after the goods’ delivery.
For the past 32 months, Saad has avoided Medhane’s attempts at communication, ignoring calls and failing to fulfill the agreed-upon payment. The matter was reported to the DCI Changamwe Police station, but Saad has refused to cooperate with the investigation.
Following an exposé by The Nairobian newspaper last year, DCI detectives are now looking to broaden their investigation into Saad’s company, Self Logistics Limited.
“We are aware of the reported case against him. Although he has evaded us, we are actively tracking him to comprehend his business activities, especially concerning tax and other matters. He purports to supply goods to the UN, and we will use that as a lead to apprehend him,” commented a detective involved in the case.
Additionally, two other individuals listed as co-owners in Self Logistics Limited are also under investigation as part of the ongoing inquiry.
