These Kibaki Lookalikes Draw Attention in the Streets

Though they are from different countries, two men have a striking resemblance with the retired President Mwai Kibaki that they are thought to be his relatives.

They confess that when in the streets they draw a lot of attention. People gaze at them and some ask if they have any relations with the third President.

One of them is Harun Githongo, a Naivasha-based businessman but hails from Murang’a County. On many occasions Githongo has been mistaken for Baba Jimmy.

Githongo says he draws a lot of attention and one time in Naivasha town a senior government officer was shocked when he bumped on him.

On realising he was not Kibaki, he confessed to him; “I wondered why the former President was walking around the town without security detail”.

The other lookalike is Kabaka Mutebi, a Buganda King in Uganda. He has a semblance with Kibaki that last year Kenyans were not convinced he is not a kindred of the former President.

Kibaki in 1950s was a student of Economics at Makerere University in Uganda.

Mutebi trend on social media with claims he was searching for his father who is allegedly a Kenyan.

He is the son of Edward Frederick William David Walugembe Mutebi Luwangula Muteesa II, Kabaka of Buganda, who reigned between 1939 and 1969.

He too has received attention and looks by people familiar with Kibaki.

Githongo says he once attended a graduation at University of Nairobi and the number of people who stopped to shake his hands was overwhelming thinking it is Kibaki.

“I have become used to all the attention. I am not related to Kibaki. I come from Murang’a, whereas Kibaki hails from Othaya. I don’t have even distance relatives in Nyeri” he says.
