A third suspect in the brutal murder of Rwanda-based businessman George Mwangi Kamau has been detained by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
John Muikiriria Mwangi was arrested at the Karinga location in the Gatundu South sub-county. So far, three suspects have now been detained in connection with the cold-blooded killing of the Kamau, who was the husband to Kiambu politician Gladys Chania.
Chania, the primary suspect alongside Morris Kamau Mbugua, was charged on November 2.
The arrest comes after in-depth investigations by detectives from the homicide unit, who took over the case’s investigation.
“The seasoned detectives found it was too much of a coincidence that the second accused Morris Kamau Mbugua was hired on October 8, 2022, by the main suspect Gladys Njeri Mwangi Alias, a day before the death and disappearance of the deceased while John Muikiriria Mwangi, went missing on the same day,” DCI said in a statement.
Chania claimed that she sent John Mwangi to deposit some money on Mpesa, but the employee who had worked at the home for four years failed to come home.
Detectives from the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau, Homicide department, Forensic Crime Scene and Photographic units came to the conclusion that George Mwangi was murdered in his home before his body was dumped at Kieni forest after thoroughly documenting the deceased’s home in Mang’u.
The investigators from the DCI National Forensic Laboratory recovered several exhibits from the house, including pieces of blood-stained metal rods, blood-soaked bed sheets, stained curtains, and stained clothing.
The third suspect will be arraigned on Monday, November 7, at Kiambu law courts.
