Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his siblings were brought up by their mother through toils and sufferings because alcohol ruined their family.
It happened that Waititu’s father was an addicted alcoholic. He abandoned them when the liquor took control and wasted his life.
Today, the 58-year-old politician-cum-businessman hates alcohol. By looking at him you may think he is the type who drinks daily but Waititu says he doesn’t consume alcohol.

Even when he was governor, he fought illegal and legal liquors with a zeal. He ordered attack and closure of illicit liquor dens as well those which operated legally.
Interestingly, Baba Yao as he is fondly called runs a popular pub in Nairobi City Centre.
The pub called Fontaine Sports Bar is housed in Delta Hotel, a building along University Way that he bought for some hundreds of millions. It is also here he has a private office.
He says he witnessed their mother shoulder the huge responsibility of bringing them up. This made him hate taking liquor but he has never explained why he is selling it to others.
We can only stipulate it is the good income it rakes in that make him invest in something he loathes.

His pub attracts the middle-class partakers who are fond of spacious pud with moderate music and particularly rhumba and country music.
Baba Yao is occasionally spotted there meeting friends and business counterparts but not any time drinking.
