The Kikuyu Council of Elders has pleaded with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to mediate and bridge the gap between embattled Governor Kimani Wamatangi and the MCAs.

More than 37 MCAs declared their readiness on Monday to impeach Wamatangi over his leadership style.

The governor has faced allegations of micromanaging the county and operating without a substantive county secretary and chief officers

Speaking to Star on Wednesday, Council national chairman Wachira Kiago said the infighting between the executive and legislature isn’t healthy.

He recalled June this year when the Gachagua united Wamatangi and Kiambu members of parliament and they agreed to work together.

Mr Kiago said that Gachagua had promised to hold talks and unite  Wamatangi and members of the county assembly, so he (Gachagua) should fulfil the promise.

“Gachagua as the senior most politicians within Mount Kenya should summon Governor Wamatangi and MCAs and unite them the way he did with MPs a few months ago,” Wachira Kiago said.

He said that the Kiambu electorate is tired of politics and wants development.

Former governor Ferdinand Waititu echoed Kiago’s sentiments and urged Wamatangi to accommodate the MCAs and work together for the betterment of the community.

“I don’t want to comment further about Kiambu as I don’t want issues, but what  I can say is that Wamatangi and members of the county assembly should work together in unity and love, ”Waititu said.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba on Wednesday during an interview with Inooro FM said the woes facing Wamatangi are deeper and need to be addressed.

“I was the first MP in Kiambu to raise issues with Wamatangi, he is that leader who rarely listens and loves doing things his own way,” Gathoni said.

Wamatangi in response to an impeachment threat by MCAs on Tuesday said he will work with those willing to improve the lives of the people of Kiambu.

Wamatangi said this via his social media handle saying those still having political hangovers will find them far ahead with their plans to transform the county.

“Time waits for no one, is that not the case?”  Wamatangi posed the question as he insisted that he would waste no time on people distracting his agenda for the county.

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has earlier said that the charges levelled against Wamatangi are dangerous as they can warrant an impeachment motion.

He said that it’s illegal for any governor to operate without substantive officials and urged Wamatangi to constitute his administration.

“My governor Wamatangi, kindly constitute your government fully and legally by having substantive officials per the constitution and amend any difference you might have with elected leaders in Kiambu,” Karungo said.

Githiga ward rep Ruth Waithera on Monday said the issues raised by MCAs are not personal and urged Wamatangi to stop sabotaging MCA’s oversight role in the assembly.

Majority leader Macharia Wambui said the governor has been hindering the assembly oversight role by working with select elected officials and compromising the service delivery.

“We are sending a warning to Governor Wamatangi and in case he doesn’t change, we will deal with him as the law stipulates,” he said.

Karuri MCA Peter Njoroge Wainaina echoed Macharia’s sentiments and said that the assembly should be allowed to oversight the executives and the governor should not interfere.

Gachagua summons Kiambu leaders to avert Wamatangi looming impeachment

“We have resolved that we won’t allow Wamatangi to derail development, Wamatangi must constitute the government fully, or else we take the law, “he said.

MPs Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South) and Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete) had earlier accused Wamatangi of inaction and inability to transform the county for the better.

Wamatangi recently alleged a conspiracy against his political standing and noted that his opponents are destabilizing his effort to service delivery.

He claimed that political factions were using county assembly members as pawns in a larger game aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
