Waititu, Wainaina Jungle fight it out for UDA ticket

Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina, alias Jungle, and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu are expected to resume their rivalry following the former’s defection to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In the 2017 elections, Waititu was a close ally of then Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a and a bitter rival of Wainaina who was seeking to unseat her.

Their differences started during the Jubilee primaries in which Wainaina lost to Ng’ang’a.

The former cried foul and ran as an independent candidate, eventually emerging victorious.

Prior to Waititu’s ouster as governor in December 2019, Wainaina had warmed up to then Deputy Governor James Nyoro who would often attend Wainaina’s functions in Thika.

Following Wainaina’s defection to UDA, his differences with Baba Yao are expected to go a notch higher.

Waititu and Wainaina are among Kiambu leaders who are expected to fight for the gubernatorial seat in next year’s elections.

Waititu recently announced, in the presence of DP William Ruto, that he will be seeking to recapture the governor seat on an UDA ticket. Wainaina is expected to seek the same ticket.
